"Yamaha FS1-E" (1977)
The Yamaha FS1-E, here shown in Popsicle Purple and affectionately known as the
"Fizzy", is a motorcycle that became an icon for a generation of young
riders in the UK. Designed as a sporty moped, the FS1-E was powered by a
49cc two-stroke engine, producing around 4.8bhp, which might not
sound like much, but was enough to make it the dream machine for
teenagers of the 1970s. The Fizzy could reach speeds of up to 45mph,
and with its lightweight frame, it was both agile and easy to handle,
making it the perfect introduction to motorcycling. The bike featured a
five-speed gearbox, telescopic front forks, and a simple, minimalist
design that was both stylish and functional. Its colourful paintwork along with the chrome accents, made the FS1-E stand out on
the road. The Yamaha FS1-E from 1977 is more than just a moped; it is a
cultural icon, remembered fondly by those who experienced the freedom of
their first rides on this legendary machine.
