[art #406]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
"Slippery Sam" is one of
the most famous race bikes in the history of motorcycle racing and is known
for its incredible success at the Isle of Man TT races in the 1970s.
Built on the foundation of a Triumph T150 Trident, "Slippery Sam" was powered
by a modified 740cc inline-three engine, which delivered around 70bhp, allowing it to reach speeds in excess of 140mph. The bike
earned its nickname after an oil leak during a race made the frame and
bodywork extremely slick, yet it continued to perform brilliantly. With
its distinctive red, black and white livery, Slippery Sam became synonymous
with Triumph's racing dominance, particularly in the Production TT
class, where it won five consecutive titles from 1971 to 1975.
Slippery Sam represented the pinnacle of Triumph's racing success with
its advanced engineering, razor-sharp handling, and the reliability that
made it unbeatable on the track. Today, Slippery Sam is remembered as a
symbol of Triumph's racing heritage and a testament to the skill and
determination of the engineers and riders who brought it to life.
