Few names in British Superbike racing are as well-known as Shane 'Shakey'
Byrne, and 2015 saw him at the peak of his powers, riding the PBM
Kawasaki ZX-10R. Already a multiple-time BSB champion, Byrne entered the
2015 season as the man to beat. The Kawasaki ZX-10R, with its 998cc
inline-four engine, gave Shakey the perfect platform to showcase his
aggressive and technical riding style. The bike's blend of raw power and
precise handling made it a standout in the ultra-competitive BSB
paddock, and Byrne knew how to extract every ounce of performance from
the machine.
Throughout the season, Byrne's rivalry with Josh Brookes intensified,
with both riders trading victories at famous circuits like Brands Hatch
and Donington Park. The Kawasaki's potent acceleration and pinpoint
handling, particularly in fast corners, gave Byrne the edge in many
crucial moments. Shakey's mastery of the ZX-10R's balance of speed and
control kept him in the title hunt all season long.
By the end of 2015, Byrne had narrowly missed out on the championship to
Brookes, but his tenacity, consistency, and expertise aboard the PBM
Kawasaki cemented his status as one of BSB's all-time greats. His legacy
remains deeply intertwined with Kawasaki, a machine that perfectly
matched his hard-charging approach to racing.
