[art #481R]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The 1983 Laverda RGS1000, shown here in red, represents a shift in
Laverda's focus from raw performance to a more refined, sport-touring
experience. Powered by a 981cc triple-cylinder engine, the RGS1000
produced 83bhp, which provided ample performance for
long-distance touring while still retaining the character and spirit of
Laverda's earlier sportsbikes. The engine was smooth and torquey,
offering strong acceleration and a top speed of around 130mph. The
RGS1000 was designed with comfort and practicality in mind, featuring a
more upright riding position, a well-padded seat, and comprehensive
instrumentation. The bike's fully enclosed bodywork provided excellent
wind protection, making it well-suited for long rides. Despite its
touring focus, the RGS1000 retained Laverda's signature handling
characteristics, with a well-balanced chassis and responsive suspension
that made it agile in the corners. The bike's design was elegant and
sophisticated, with clean lines and a distinctive front fairing and 3-1-2 exhaust system that set
it apart from its competitors. The 1983 Laverda RGS1000 is celebrated
for its combination of performance, comfort, and style, making it a
standout model in the sport-touring segment.
