[art #472]. Limited Edition Print by Steve Dunn.
The BSA Bantam D1 is one of the most famous and widely
recognised small motorcycles in British biking history, known for its simplicity,
reliability, and accessibility. Introduced in 1948, the Bantam D1 was
BSA's first post-war motorcycle and quickly became a favourite among new
riders and commuters alike. The D1 was powered by a 125cc two-stroke
engine, producing around 4bhp, which might seem modest by
today's standards, but it was enough to provide dependable and
economical transportation. Its lightweight design and ease of
maintenance made it particularly appealing to a wide range of riders,
from beginners to rural postal workers. The D1 featured a three-speed
gearbox, a rigid frame, and simple suspension, embodying the
straightforward engineering that made BSA a household name. The Bantam
series eventually expanded into larger engine sizes and various models,
but the D1 remains beloved as the motorcycle that got Britain back on
two wheels in the post-war era.
