Andrea Dovizioso had been Ducati's linchpin in MotoGP for years, and
2018 saw him continue his fierce rivalry with Marc Márquez
. Riding the Ducati Desmosedici GP18, Dovi was armed with a machine that was the
pinnacle of Italian engineering, powered by a 1,000cc V4 engine
delivering over 250 horsepower. The GP18 was known for its brute power,
especially on the straights, and its innovative aerodynamics, which
helped Dovizioso extract maximum performance on the most demanding
circuits.
Dovi's riding style was a perfect match for the Desmosedici, blending
smoothness with precise aggression, allowing him to manage the GP18's
immense power while still being formidable in close battles. He took
memorable victories at tracks like Qatar and Misano, where the
combination of the Ducati's acceleration and Dovizioso's strategic
racecraft came together in spectacular fashion. Despite facing the
dominant Repsol Honda of Márquez, Dovi's ability to tame the
unpredictable GP18 kept him in title contention throughout the season.
In 2018, Dovizioso's partnership with the Ducati GP18 brought out the
best in both rider and machine, showcasing his skill in taming a
powerful, sometimes wild bike while reaffirming Ducati's status as a top
MotoGP contender.
