Porsche 911 painting now finished. It's the Martini one that won the Targa Florio and gave Porsche a great boost in their standing as a top sports car manufacturer. I was very very lucky to see the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of years ago and I always thought this would make a great picture. I hope you agree.

Started a new website the other day called (rather egotistically) www.stevedunn.com, well I couldn't think of a better name for it! It came about because I wanted somewhere to display some of my personal works that I've done over the years and I didn't want to jumble them in with my car and motorcycle artwork. There's not much on there yet but I will get some work on there in a few days after I get my long awaited (and overdue) Porsche 911 painting finished.

I have just uploaded my latest painting of another great classic British bike, the Ariel Square Four. The picture shows an early Mk2 with single seat, which for me really looks the part.

By craftily reworking my Matchless G50 painting I am now able to offer another great classic bike, the AJS 7R from 1960 which was virtually identical in appearance.

Seems like ages since I uploaded any new pictures but I'm hoping to have several new bike paintings finished by the end of January. They'll be mainly old British classics but also a fantastic Italian six cylinder stallion that I used to ride in the late 1980s ... hmm, I wonder what that could be?

A huge thanks to all who bought prints and even some originals from me over the Christmas period. It will keep me in paints and brushes for a few more months!

My painting of the little Yamaha FS1-E is now available here. I'd been watching the progress of Comet 17P/Holmes during the November nights when I was working on the picture so I thought it would be fun to put a comet in the painting, along with a frosty otherworldly looking backdrop.

With the print sales going hell for leather at the moment I haven't had chance to pick up the paint brushes for a few days but I will resume production around Christmas time when it will be quieter, (apart from the sound of sleigh bells and carol singers of course).

The Slippery Sam picture is now available as prints. I tried to paint it to match the John Player Norton since they were adversaries and the paintings will look great on the wall as an opposing pair.

Not sure what pictures are coming next, probably another car or two, maybe a classic Porsche or BMW. I'm also quite looking forward to painting a friend's dog which will make a welcome change as I haven't done anything without wheels for far too long!

The John Player Norton painting is now finished. I'm just waiting a day or so before I scan it because some of the colours are sticky and I need to be sure I didn't leave any wheels off it or other silly mistakes.
The Norton hasn't been a particularly difficult painting but it was difficult to find detailed pictures of the bike from the IOM TT in 1973. Fortunately I had some good photos of it's sister bike which I took at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham earlier this year.

I expect to have the John Player Norton prints available on the website by tuesday evening at the latest.

Slippery Sam is about half done. I expect to complete the painting and have prints available by the end of the week.

The John Player Norton fairing is now taking shape, The red and white parts are done, but the red paint, Scmincke Mussini Vermilion), seems to be taking forever to dry so I've put the painting to one side in case I smudge it. Vermilion is such a beautiful colour, a fiery orangy red which is almost impossible to reproduce in CMYK. Hopefully I'll be able to put in the blues tomorrow and start on the cycle parts.

In the meantime I'm getting the Slippery Sam Trident drawn out and will be starting to paint this later today.

The purple FS1-E prints will be available from FizzyParts.co.uk in a few days.

Started the John Player Norton painting yesterday. I'm trying to do it really carefully and I'm using a less textured surface to normal. I read a book the other day by Boris Vallejo the great fantasy arist, in which he shares some of his working techniques, a few of which I'm eager to try on my bike pictures. It's always fun to try different painting methods, it makes doing them far more interesting than plodding along doing what could be the same painting again and again.

The FS1-E picture will be released in a few days and It will be sold initially through the website of an FS1-E expert friend who has been of tremendous help with this project. I'll post more details about this in my blog in a few days.

14 November 2007

So this is where I'm going to be posting updates about my artwork.

Today I have a new oil painting sitting next to me of a purple 1973 Yamaha FS1-E (Fizzy as they were called). Loads of people have asked me for this as it was their introduction to two wheels.

Today I'm researching two new paintings, a couple of the greatest British racing motorcycles of the 20thC. They are the 1973 IOM TT F750 winning John Player Norton ridden by Peter Williams; and 'Slippery Sam', the all conquering Triumph Trident which dominated the island in the early seventies. I'm very excited to be working on these pictures, I'm looking forward to getting started!

They should keep me quiet for a week or two!
